So for those that know me know I have a highly unusual name. So I was wasting time as usual and goggled my first name. It was eerie. I came across an obituary for a girl who had my first name and was my age. We had similar lifepaths. She was a third-year law student and the article didn't say how she died. The weird thing was the way that they kept using her first name. It was almost like reading my own eulogy. heck, she even looked like me.
So today I had to turn down a garuanteed job offer. The offer was great and I don't have any backup offer, but I do have the possiblity of working at my dream job for the summer and in the end they wouldn't give me another extension. So I weighed my risks and went for my gut! It was hard making that phone call however, but I do feel like I did the right thing.
So things that continue to piss me off - shows about how people are incapable of taking care of themselves. First this show SupperNanny for parents who are unable to exert discipline on their kids. This goes right in hand w/ that Newsweek article on how to tell your kids no. So now that I have brought up the topic of indulgent parents let's talk about the second thing that has pissed me off this week. That MTV show Sweet 16. This is a show about super rich spoiled girls who are having million-dollar sweet 16 parties. What the fugg? Let's look at Donald Trump's kids. Despite being worth tons of money, they turned our fairly normal. Look at the Onaissis girl. She wasn't throwing herself a million dollar party. What they hell does it say when not only are you throwing your kid a party with 700 folks there, you start drinking yourself.
It's disgusting. Within the conservative movement, I am definitely for a back to family values - although my definition of family includes more than just a mom and dad.
So we are in the middle of recruiting season. Some folks have offers already (banks have super quick turn-around). I got lucky and get two chances for the firm I really want but that means that I have to wait longer to hear the results.
Valentine's day is coming up soon. I actually saw Valentine's Day merchandise after Christmas. Again I will spend another V-day w/ the girls showing down. Oh well, it's not so bad!
