But I haven?t even had my morning coffee yet?

posted Tue, 11-27-07

So I have a new pet peeve.  People who wake up angry.  That has to be the only excuse.  It started with the taxi driver who picked me up (after I waited 45 min) and in the 10 min cab ride proceeded to cuss each and every driver out.  And when I say cuss, I mean he cussed.  Gotdarn this and MF that and Shhh.  I’m like dude, it’s like 7am.  Your day can’t be that bad yet and I haven’t even had my morning coffee.  I can’t take this until at least I’m fully caffeinated.

But then I realized it’s a trend.  Flashback to last Wednesday.  The busiest travel day.  I have a flight at 6:50 to eat my grandmother’s sweet potato pie (mmm…pie).  I decide to beat the game and get to the airport at 4:30am.  I miraculously don’t even have to call for a cab, as the driver from the night before agrees to pick me up at 4am.  Woohoo, I’m sailing.  I get there and only a couple of people in line.  Heck, it’s so early the TSA screeners aren’t even open yet.  I settle in with a good trashy novel, trying to stay awake.  This guy comes in and looks frantic.  He can’t get to the security line b/c they’ve blocked off every entrance.  It doesn’t matter that he doesn’t see anybody going through the checkpoint.  It doesn’t matter that there is a gang of people sitting down chilling out.  He’s frantic that he isn’t going to make it through.  Somehow he stands behind me and says angrily “Well they could have prepped us”  How dude?  By getting us all shoeless, getting all our computer bags.  You still made it through in under three minutes and your flight isn’t leaving until at least 6.  Chill out.

I could go on, but let’s just say that nobody is allowed to have an attitude anymore until I get my morning coffee and my brain can comprehend what you are trying to say.

I’m trying to figure out where to focus this blog now.  Do I focus on my life as a consultant?  My life in the airport?  My life in general?  Amusing stories as a new, broke homeowner?  Some mix in between I guess.  Any thoughts?  I know lots of people are interested in Tuck/B-school still, but although I go to Tuck like every other week to recruit for ABC firm, I’m somewhat out the loop.

So since I am a management consultant and professional traveler here are my signs that you know you travel too much

1)      You have at least three different hotel keys in your wallet

2)      You will stay 30 mins out of your way for double points, 45 min for triple mid-week bonus points

3)      You open your purse, briefcase, wallet, etc. and a myriad of receipts fall out

4)      You have ever charged anything under a dollar to a corporate card

5)      You know how to time the security line in your airport so you just walk on to your flight

6)      You’ve ever called an airline/hotel/car rental to see if they would match your status on an airline

Oh I could go on, but I’m interested any items folks might have.
