My life as a reality TV Show

posted Tue, 12-04-07

So if my life were a TV reality show it's pitch would be, "What is she willing to do for more points...?"

I sometimes wish my life could be a TV show so I can have my bad qualities magnified.  I know that I have a tendency to always think I'm write, to butt my nose into other people's problems and give unsolicited advice.  I can also be selfish at times which I try to make up for by being overly generous to a fault.

Oh well, it's a continuous push in life.  So here are things I'm loving this week.

Madgirl's tenacity for going after the corn subsidies, and high fructose corn syrup.  There are too many articles to list here, but put those words in a search engine (my non-conformity makes me use www.ask.com to break google's hold).  And it's not just the conspiracy theorists.  You'll find articles from cnn, Mayo Clinic and other well respected names.

 I am loving Sachal Vasandani's singing -

which is by Iron & Wine.  I love his voice and apparently his live shows are fantastic!  His album is on iTunes and it's gotten great reviews although I haven't bought it yet.

And Chaka's new song Angel from her new album is off the chain.  It is her at her best.  Her voice.  The tone.  I've said before that she is the most underrated singer of her generation and I still stand by that.  You can listen on her website since she doesn't have a video out yet.

I am looking for input from my bloggers now.  What is the craziest thing you've ever done while "multitasking" on a conference call?  I've done the usual check email. surf the web, but I'm looking for crazy examples.  You can either leave it in the comments or send me an email - wonderchild@yahoo.com

So what has been on my mind lately is why we can't allow ourselves to be happy.  People who appear to be happy are perceived as stupid or flighty.  Think about that and the terms we use - "grinning stupidly" "laughing themselves silly."  While suffering is a necessary part of life to help us group, why are we so afraid to express passion and joy.  For example, I love my job, I love my house, I love the life I have right now.  I've been unusually blessed and I thank God everyday for that.  Are there areas I want to change, absolutely.  Are there areas where I have concerns.  Yes.  Have there been setbacks yes and I know some are coming.  But why don't we allow ourselves to enjoy the here and now.  Why can't we say, I loved that movie.  I love FoodNetwork.  Even I love you.  I love my kittens.  They bring me untold joy and make me smile.  Why do I feel bad saying that?  Why do we enjoy discussing our pain, how long we suffer.  Why is martyrism seen as a greater virture then contentment?
