I went to Cleveland on a surprise visit for training for work and to see my grandfather. My mother was already there helping out so my grandmother could help her bridge chapter with the national tournament they were hosting.
I got there and was able to say hello as he was drifting off to sleep. Less than an hour later he died.
People have many reactions to death. For those in my family who have passed, I do not experience sadness at their passing. They have had extended illnesses and at the time of their passing were ready to move on. I know that they are with God and in a much better place. I'm blessed in the fact that I had them in my life as long as I did. I was able to love them, be with them. Laugh with them. Cry with them.
It's only months or years later when something that we could have talked about that I realize they are gone. That's when it hits me.
Make sure you value each and every minute of your life. It's short and time flies. When you wake up each morning thank God for giving you another day to change the world and leave it better than you found it. Tell someone you love them. Smile at a stranger. Take a minute for yourself and do something that makes you and only you happy.
